Santa can you hear me? I have been so good this year and all I want is one thing: tell me my true love is here!
New Year – new decisions. But before making your new year resolutions list, it is time to give farewell to the old one in great style and make a gracious way for the coming one. In this article, we give you names of some awesome new year eve themes that might rise up your motivation for a good start to the upcoming year. Who knows, maybe some of this NYE themed party will be the place where your true love is!
Elegant new year party themes
Black and white theme
The simplest solution for an elegant New Year theme party is black and white decoration. Combine black and white while arranging tablecloths, napkins and other items. The black stands for glamour and the white stands for elegancy. For this type of decoration, prepare elegant appetizers (like smoked salmon with taro chips, prosciutto rolls, tarts etc.) and champagne! Inform your guest that there is an elegant and formal dress code. At 00:00, give a toast to the New Year and make a wish!
Black and gold
If you want to be elegant, but to give an additional royal tone to your celebration, add some gold. You may even keep the original black and white décor from the previous theme, but add some golden items like candle holders, candles, plates, forks and knives! Champaign, fancy appetizers and toast stand!
All white winter party theme
Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh; O’er the fields we go, laughing all the way! For many people, the first association on New Year and Christmas holidays is snow. Thus, this theme might be a good choice. Decorate all space in white (tablecloth, napkins, curtains, even glasses and cutlery if it is possible) and inform your guests to wear white (formal and elegant dress code stays)! Your Christmas tree will look like a magical forest of a winter fairytale.
Wine and cheese theme
For people who are not elegant appetizer fans, a wine and cheese party is a good idea. You may keep any of the previous elegant decors or you may just leave your celebration space the way it already is. Also, is formal and elegant dress code is not necessary for this theme, smart casual is also acceptable. It won’t reduce the level of elegancy. What matters is to provide enough sorts of wine and enough types of cheese. You may pick wine and cheese from any part of the world, but you must be careful about one thing. Each type of wine requires a specific type of cheese, so be careful that every wine you pick has its cheese match. Finally, it would be excellent if you could provide special cheese cutlery to make this party awesome!
Fondue party
Why limit yourself to cheese and wine when you can have a nice hot bowl of fondue as well, with plenty of bread, fruits, and vegetables. A formal dress code isn’t necessary here as well, smart casual will do the job!
Flower party
As December is coming to the end, some people are already thinking about spring. If you are one of them, this could be the right theme for you. Use grass green as the basic color and add flower decoration to it. You may put vases on the table with flowers or use cutlery and plates with flower decoration. Guests may come both in both formal and smart casual outfits, but they should put at least one candy-decorated accessory (or put a flower on their suit or in their hair). Also, you may make some cookies in the shape of your favorite flower!
Glitter Party Theme
This is my time to shine! Or in other words, more glitter, less bitter. Make your New Year party as shine as possible. Decorate space with glitter tablecloths and glasses/cutlery and inform your guests to pick the most glitter outfit they have. As Rihanna would sing: Shining bright like a diamond; We’re beautiful like diamonds in the sky!
Oriental party
Another “warm” NYE eve theme is an oriental theme. As being perfect combination of elegance and mystery, it is never losing its popularity. Light a space with a low-light red light or red candles. Decorate it with some exotic items like Moroccan pillows and oriental lanterns (which you can find at any gift shop). To make a more exotic atmosphere, light sandalwood, jasmine, musk, lotus or any other oriental plant incense that you can find. If you can not find the incense, scented candles will do the work. Prepare some oriental appetizers and maybe some Moroccan tea for refreshment! Play some smooth exotic style playlist!
Far East party
Use red as basic color and decorate space with some Chinese and Japanese or other Asian culture items (alike oriental items from previous themes, they may be found in every gift shop – lanterns, vases, ceiling decoration, decorated glasses etc.). Prepare some far east appetizer and when it is 00:00, light a new year’s sparkles or fireworks (if you have a garden, knows how to use it and if it is according to your state law – safety first).
Funny and casual party themes
Beach new year party
As you all know, in the southern hemisphere it is summer! Thus, if you are not a winter fan, you can turn your celebration space into Copacabana beach. Instead of chairs, use beach chairs and serve some seafood and cocktails. Add some harbor and other sea-themed decorations to your space and use sea and sky blue and sand yellow as dominant decoration colors. Enter the new year with an awesome beach party!
Game night
If you and your friends are more into action than celebration, this might be a good NYE theme for you. Bring your favorite board and card games, serve some chips and make a competition! Be a good sport and you will enter the new year with big smiles on your face and tones of serotonin in your blood!
Poker’s night
If you want to add more spice to the previous theme, you can turn your celebration space into small Las Vegas. Instead of board games, play poker and tombola! Prepare special presents for winners!
Movie marathon
Everybody has at least one holiday movie that likes. But in majority of cases, there is more than one. So, organize the pull and ask your guests which New Year movies they would like to watch most. After that prepare some popcorn and make New Year’s movie night unforgettable!
Karaoke party
Similar to holiday movies, holiday songs are extremely popular and everybody knows at least one. So, instead of the playlist, you might have live music for your New Year’s night! The quality of interpretation is not guaranteed, but the fun time is!
Farewell to the previous year(s)
Before giving a toast and making wishes for New Year, it is a good idea to remember all the things from previous year(s) you are thankful for. Make photos of the best moments and decorate space with them (you may even put them on the balloons or your t-shirts). Make a playlist of previous year’s biggest hits and enter a New Year with a big smile and a sense of gratefulness!
Midnight breakfast theme
Threat the beginning of the new year as it is the beginning of a new, glorious day. When the clock tickles twelve, prepare and serve your favorite breakfast to your guests! You may even make a morning coffee in a specially made cup with a powerful message like “This year is going to be awesome” and cheers with that!
Decade’s theme
Pick your favorite decade (or organize the poll to see which decade is favorite among your guests) and decorate your space with the decade items (like movie posters, original piece of clothes, images of music and movie industry stars etc.) and put a playlist with decade’s biggest hits. Additionally, you may add the decade’s biggest blockbuster movie marathon! It is preferable for your guest to come in decade’s fashion, of course!
Costume party
Another creative solution is a costume party! Like in the previous themes, you can choose some theme or you can just let your guests be creative and pick a costume they like. To make the night more interesting, tell everyone to be as much unrecognizable as they can (with costume, voices and everything) and when all guests arrive organize who is who guessing game!
Pajama party theme
This is one of the coziest solutions for New Year. Just call your closest friends, get comfortable in your pajamas, make some popcorn or buy some chips and enjoy your favorite movies/music (or maybe even some pillow fighting). No formal dressing, no elegant or creative decoration, just you and your friends having a fun time together!
Secret Santa Party
If your party is, like in the previous theme, limited only to a close friend, you can organize a Secret Santa game. Put names in the hat and let everyone pick one person, without telling whom he/she picked. When a guest arrives, he/she should put a present under the Christmas tree with the name of the person he/she picked hidden somewhere below the present. When midnight comes, everyone should open their present!
Dessert party theme
Ask your guests to bring their favorite dessert with them. Also, prepare some dessert of your own and serve it with a lot of coffee and ice cream. The different types of desserts will make beautiful sweet mosaic decorations at your table will make the most delicious décor you can imagine!
Country party theme
Old Macdonald had a farm and at that farm he had a magnificent new year celebration. Nothing special, nothing extravagant just a relaxing new year’s eve party with casual outfits and good country food (like barbeque). If you want to make space more rustic, you can put farm decoration (e.g. corn and/or hay bales) over the celebration space.
Fortune telling party
All of us are a little bit curious about what next year is going to bring. So, you may organize a fortune-telling NYE party. It does not matter if it is tarot or coffee cup, what matters is to have fun. If you are brave enough, you may even bring an Ouija board.
Horror party theme
If you and your guests like to get scared, New Year’s eve might be a good chance for a Halloween party replay. Choose your favorite horror theme (slasher or whatever it is (we already wrote about Halloween themes here) and face all your demons before the clock tickles 00:00.
Around the world New Year
Although New Year comes at different times in different countries, it should not stop you from bringing some of the world’s cultural traditions to your home. Here are a few suggestion suggestions:
Italian Party
Similar to the wine and cheese party. Buy some nice Italian wine and cheese and have fun! To make a better atmosphere, put some elegant tablecloths with candleholders, light some candles and prepare Venetian masks for your guest. Also, according to Italian belief, it is good to wear red underwear during the New Year party so you would be lucky in love next year!
Latino theme party
Nobody can resist a una maravillosa fiesta latina! Choose a Latin American country that you like and decorate space with colors of that country (e.g. if you choose Mexico, decorate space in green, white and red) and Latin items (like sombreros or ceiling decoration). Prepare some appetizers (like burritos, tacos etc.), put Latino playlist and at midnight you might give a toast with tequila or even hit the piñata!
Spanish party
Similar to the previous theme, except that you must add one costume. Namely, Spaniards prepare grapes for 12 minutes before New Year and as every minute pass, they put one grape in their mouth. When 00:00 moment comes, they swallow the grapes so all 12 months would be happy! Give a shot at this costume and who knows, maybe the following year will really be special for you!
Chinese party
The Chinese New Year is on February the 12th, but you may turn your new year party into an early celebration. Use in decoration as much red as possible! Red symbolizes luck in Chinese tradition! Also, inform yourself to which animal from the Chinese zodiac following year belongs and pick at least one item with that animal (if you can find more decoration with it, even better). Prepare some Chinese appetizers and when the midnight moment comes
World New Year customs cocktail
Here we gave you just some of the most popular new year traditions and customs. Of course, their number in totality is far bigger. In Ecuador, people make dolls (Spanish: efigies) and then burn them, to remove bad luck from the previous year. In Ethiopia, girls put on new clothes (ideal opportunity for New Year shopping) and collect flowers and later sing Christmas carols. In Japan, bell must be ringing 108 times to remove 108 human weaknesses. In Brazil, they throw flowers in the sea as a gift to Sea Goddess. In Russia, Santa Claus has his granddaughter named Snegurochka (Russian: Снегу́рочка, meaning The Snow Maiden) as a faithful assistant. As you could see, traditions and customs are various and you may pick the one that you like and make a unique New Year Culture Cocktail. Also, you may ask you guests (especially if they come from different cultural background) to bring their traditions with them as a gift.
As clock is tickling
Tonight, the Super Trouper lights are gonna find me, shining like the sun, smiling, having fun Feeling like number one!
With this ABBA megahit song verse, we would like to finish this list. Whatever option you choose, the most important is how you feel! And if you are smiling, having fun, shining like the sun and feeling like a number one, that’s great! That’s the spirit for the upcoming year! Happy New Year and may all your wishes come true!
